Rat Control in Pleasure Ridge Park and Valley Station

Pleasure Ridge Park started out as a getaway on a shady ridge and filled with subdivisions from the 1950s on, when land was cheap and it was a short trip to downtown or Fort Knox. More neighborhoods followed after the Greenbelt Highway opened. Dixie Highway is the main road, lined with stores and restaurants, and Valley Station continues south from there. Closer to the river, the Riverport area is full of warehouses.

What we hear from the southwest

Most calls are about rats under sheds, decks and slabs, rats in the garage, and mice in the house in the fall. A lot of homes here have bigger yards than the older parts of town, with gardens, chickens, dog pens and outbuildings, all of which can feed and shelter rats. The river bottoms and the wooded strips along the creeks add cover. See yard and shed rats and mouse control.

Warehouses near Riverport and businesses on Dixie Highway usually go with a commercial program.

  • Store chicken and dog feed in metal cans
  • Raise woodpiles and lumber off the ground
  • Check crawl space vents after mowing season
