Rat Control in Jeffersontown, Kentucky
Jeffersontown dates to the 1790s and still has its old town square, now called Gaslight Square for the gas lamps that once lined it. The Gaslight Festival has been held there since 1970, and these days it runs in September. Around the old center, the city spread out into subdivisions, plus a big business and industrial area along Blankenbaker Parkway.
So J-Town rat and mouse calls come from three kinds of places: the older downtown, the suburban streets and the commercial buildings.
Subdivisions and wooded edges
A lot of Jeffersontown streets back onto creeks, wooded strips and detention basins. Mice live along those edges all summer and try the closest house when it turns cold. Rats show up where there's food: bird feeders, compost, chicken feed, a vegetable garden. Garage doors and crawl space vents are the usual way in. See mouse control and rat proofing.
Warehouses and offices
The industrial area along Blankenbaker and the strips on Taylorsville Road have dock doors, pallets and dumpsters. Rats and mice come in with freight and through doors left open. A commercial program with logged visits is the usual fix.
- Door sweeps on dock and back doors
- Lids closed on every dumpster
- Stock off the floor and away from walls
