Rat Questions From Louisville Homeowners

These are the questions people ask us most. If yours isn't here, call. The Louisville rat guides go further on several of them.

What people ask us

Do you send out the technician?

No. This is a referral line. We hand your call to a licensed, independent company, and that company does the job and prices it.

What kind of rats are in Louisville?

Norway rats, almost always. Roof rats aren't common in Kentucky. See Norway rats vs. roof rats.

Which parts of town do you cover?

All of Louisville Metro and Jefferson County, including St. Matthews, Jeffersontown, Middletown, Shively and Prospect.

Can the city help?

Louisville Metro Codes and Regulations may place rat bait at single-family homes with rat problems. Call Metro 311. Details are in our Metro 311 guide.

How small a hole can a rat get through?

About the size of a quarter for a young Norway rat. Mice need even less.

Is rat bait safe around my kids and dog?

Bait should only go in locked, tamper-resistant stations, fastened down and placed outside. Tell the technician about kids and pets so they can plan around them.

I smell something dead in the wall. Can you help?

Yes. See dead rat removal. The company can try to find it and remove it.

What about squirrels or raccoons?

This line is for rats and mice. For squirrels, raccoons and other wildlife, call a wildlife removal company.

Is there a guarantee?

Not from us. If the company offers one, it's theirs. Ask about it before you agree to the work.
