Rat Control in Okolona

Okolona is centered on the corner of Preston Highway and the Outer Loop. It was farm country (the area was once called Lone Oak) until General Electric opened Appliance Park nearby in 1953. Houses went up fast after that, and most of Okolona's neighborhoods date from the 1950s through the 1970s. Since the 2003 merger it's been part of the city of Louisville.

Ranches, crawl spaces and sheds

Lots of brick ranches here, many on crawl spaces, with a carport or one-car garage and a shed in back. Rats dig under the shed and the slab, then work their way into the crawl space through a loose vent or a gap at a pipe. Mice come in through the garage. Crawl space rats and rat proofing cover the fixes.

Preston Highway's restaurants and shops have the usual dumpster issues, which spread to houses behind them.

• Latch and seal the crawl space access door
• Pick up fallen fruit and pet food at night
