Rat Control in Middletown, Kentucky
Middletown was laid out in 1797 and probably got its name from sitting about halfway between Louisville and Shelbyville. For a while it was actually bigger than Louisville. It incorporated in 1866, dissolved in 1962 and incorporated again in 1979. The old center is still there along the main road, with newer subdivisions spread out around it.
Old center, new edges
The handful of older buildings in the historic center have the foundation and wall gaps you'd expect. Most Middletown homes, though, are in subdivisions built over the last few decades, many next to open fields, creeks and woods. Those edges send mice and the odd rat toward houses every fall. Garage doors, the AC line set, dryer vents and the roofline are the usual entry points. See mouse control.
Rats tend to show up near food: restaurants along the main road, feeders and gardens. Rats in the yard covers what to do outside.
- Seal the gap where AC lines enter the wall
- Check the garage door corners for daylight
- Keep the woodpile off the ground and away from the house
